Parks of Kannapolis
The city of Kannapolis is home to several wonderful parks. The Parks and Recreation Department is committed in providing safe and positive experiences for all abilities and interests. They also partner with the Kannapolis YMCA, Carrabus Arts Council, the Kannapolis Library and other organizations to provide programs and events. For more information on the parks call 704-920-4343.

Cabarrus County Parks
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation operates three countywide parks and 35 School Parks. These parks provide more than 400 acres of passive and active recreation space including tournament-quality athletic fields, gymnasiums, playgrounds, picnic shelters, tennis courts, mountain bike trails, horseshoe pits, disc golf courts, bocce courts, volleyball and basketball courts, miniature golf, paddleboats, fishing lakes, rental cabins, walking and jogging trails and more.

Spectator Sports

NASCAR

Lowe’s Motor Speedway, a 1.5 mile super speedway, is located just 15 minutes from Kellswater Bridge. Among events hosted throughout the year are three NEXTEL Cup Series events, two Busch Series races and a Craftsman Truck series event.

Baseball

Kannapolis Intimidators: South Atlantic League and Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Charlotte Knights: Triple A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and a member of the International League.

Football

NFL - Carolina Panthers: Bank of America stadium is just 30 minutes from Kellswater Bridge. Treat yourself to one of the NFL’s state-of-the-art facilities.
NCAA: Charlotte began hosting the Continental Tire Bowl in 2002. Due to the enormous success it will continue to be an annual event. This game is played in the Bank of America Stadium. The military Classic of the South with the Citadel against the Virginia Military Institute continues to be a long lived football rivalry, and is played each year in downtown Charlotte’s Memorial Stadium.

Basketball

NBA - Charlotte Bobcats: North Carolina’s own expansion team is located just steps away from a variety of office buildings, restaurants, stores and two city transit terminals. It’s also just 30 minutes from Kellswater Bridge.
NCAA: Take a short drive and you can watch some of the best basketball in the country. ACC powers Wake Forest, Duke, UNC, and NC State are all less than 2 hours away.

Hockey

NHL - Carolina Hurricanes: The 2006 Stanley Cup Champions’ Home Ice is the RBC Center in Raleigh, just over 2 hours away.
Charlotte Checkers: The ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s New York Rangers has seen 12 players rise through the ranks and reach NHL Status. The Checkers now play in the new Bobcats Arena in downtown Charlotte, 30 minutes from Kellswater Bridge.

Soccer

Charlotte Eagles: Professional Soccer entered the region in 1993. The Charlotte Eagles and the Lady Eagles play April-August. Eagle’s games can be attended at various soccer fields in the Charlotte area.

PGA

Wachovia Championship in Charlotte: In three short years, the national and international golf community has already recognized it as a top event on the PGA Tour.
Chrysler Classic of Greensboro: Held at the Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro is the eighth event in the PGA Fall Finish presented by Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn: This features a week’s worth of special events and attractions including exhibitions, pro-ams and three days of PGA Champions Tour competition with some of golf’s greatest legends.

* The Augusta National is not too far away for Masters’ enthusiasts, nor is the Heritage Classic at Harbour Town Links in Hilton Head.
